Definition:
The basic unit of a grass or sedge inflorescence; bearing one or more florets usually subtended by one or two glumes (bracts) on a rachilla. A floret is often surrounded by two scales, one external (lemma), and one internal (palea). They are roughly equivalent to the sepals and petals of the flowers.
