Familia endógena de proteínas, perteneciente a la subfamilia de las serpinas, que neutraliza la acción de las trombinas. Se han identificado seis antitrombinas naturales, cuya denominación se efectúa mediante un número romano del I al VI. La antitrombina I (véase el término fibrina) y la antitrombina III revisten gran importancia.
