What's New in the 2020 Edition

The 2020 National Agricultural Library Thesaurus (NALT), available in English and Spanish, contains 396 new definitions in the thesaurus and a separate glossary. New for 2020 are assigning a taxonomic rank to all taxon names from every biological kingdom. Many virus names replaced and updated according to 18th report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. Latin plant names added and updated after taxonomic verification by the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN). Other subject areas expanded are plant breeding, agricultural technology, human nutrition and diet, genetics, chemistry, enzymes, food sciences, pathology and environmental sciences. The 2020 NALT is the 19th edition; it was originally released in 2002.

Please consult the list of new terms and the list of replaced terms for this edition.

Thanks are extended to AgNIC members, IICA partners, Dr. Melanie Schori at GRIN and to all those who proposed suggestions for changes to this edition. Users are encouraged to send us comments so that we may continue to improve this resource.
