What's New in the 2021 Edition

The 2021 National Agricultural Library Thesaurus (NALT), available in English and Spanish, contains 381 new definitions and a separate glossary. New in the 2021 edition are plant disease names that are now separate from taxonomic names. Many virus names are replaced and updated according to the 19th report of the International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses. Latin plant names were added and updated after taxonomic verification by the Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN). Other subject areas that have been expanded are animal welfare, food sciences, genetics, chemistry, enzymes, plant diseases, ecology and the environmental sciences. The 2021 NALT is the 20th edition; it was originally released in 2002.

Please consult the list of new terms and the list of replaced terms for this edition.

Thanks are extended to AgNIC members, IICA partners, Dr. Melanie Schori at GRIN and to all those who proposed suggestions for changes to this edition. Users are encouraged to send us comments so that we may continue to improve this resource.
