Definition:
Nuclear phosphoprotein encoded by the p53 gene ( genes, P53) whose normal function is to control cell proliferation and apoptosis. A mutant or absent p53 protein has been found in leukemia; osteosarcoma; lung cancer; and colorectal cancer.
