El interferón producido por los linfocitos estimulados mitogénica o antigénicamente. Es estructuralmente diferente del interferón de tipo I y su actividad principal es la inmunorregulación. Se ha implicado en la expresión de antígenos de histocompatibilidad de clase II en las células que normalmente no los producen, lo que conduce a enfermedades autoinmunes.
